My AmeriCorps Year

An account of the 10+ months I'll be spending as a member of the AmeriCorps NCCC at the new campus in Vicksburg, MS. (The title is, of course, a tribute to the rather brilliant graphic novel "Our Cancer Year," that was part of the basis for the equally brilliant film American Splendor.)

I really enjoyed The Squid & the Whale and Kicking & Screaming (the one about post-college malaise, not the Will Ferrel soccer one), and this trailer looks pretty intriguing.

America, I Am Disappoint of the Day: Sarah Palin supporters, gathered outside a Going Rogue book signing event in Columbus, Ohio, are presented with basic questions about her policy positions.

Vacularity ensues.

Oh, Sarah….I wonder if we’ll see her obliviously propped in front of any freshly slaughtered turkeys during this tour.

I love when actors do crazy stuff like this for auditions.

thedailywhat:

Movie Audition of the Day: On the heels of two unsuccessful attempts at securing a part in the upcoming live-action Yogi Bear adaptation, actor T. J. Miller (Hud from Cloverfield) decided to go for broke with the single greatest audition tape ever produced: Miller, with help from the fine folks at the Hollywood Animal Ranch, recorded himself reading lines with a real-live bear.

Bonus: It totally worked! Warner Bros. CEO Barry M. Meyer saw the video and offered Miller the role of Ranger Jones.

Moral of the Story: When all else fails — film yourself feeding marshmallows to a bear with your mouth.

Vanja Mrgan: “Bearded: The Series”
Vanja was sitting on the toilet (thanks for that, Vanja!) reading a Conan story, when it abruptly occurred to him: “Conan should have a beard!” He immediately (well, almost immediately) went to work, reimagining a number of his favorite pop-culture icons as grade-B beard-sporting badasses.
Check his site, aptly titled Beards and Bellies, for ongoing project updates.

I think RoboCop is my favorite.
